My Mad Obession with Mad Men

I have heard so many wonderful things about the show Mad Men, but I just haven't gotten around to giving the show a real chance.  Well, this weekend I have had quite an intense cycle of migraines hit so I had no choice but to literally stay in bed for 3 days straight (today makes 4).  So, I asked my lovely husband to pick up a couple of the Mad Men DVD series so I could check it out for myself and see what all the fuss was about!  Well, now I know, and I can honestly say that I am a bonafide Mad Men fan!  I found the show to be pretty slow at first, but I just couldn't keep my eyes off of all of the classic fashion and beautiful hair. (not to mention Don Drapper!)  And boy who knew that in the late 50's you could sit around the office and smoke all day and drink straight up whiskey during afternoon meetings? How times have changed!

Here are the three main female characters, Betty (played by January Jones), Joan (played by Christina Hendricks), and Peggy (played by Elizabeth Moss).  Not only do their names scream late 50's, but their bouffant hairstyles and circle skirt dresses made me tingle on the inside! (no lie)
These ladies dress like this every single day in the show, I think it's quite inspiring.

Of course my favorite character is Joan. I am sure you can guess because she is a redhead (woot!) but she is also a super hardcore office manager that doesnt take flack from anyone! (she's my new hero)
Not to mention she is smokin' hot and has some serious curves.

And who said smoking couldn't look glamorous!?? LOL

I still love Betty (Don Drapper's wife) because she is an all-around American beauty with blonde hair, blue eyes, and the perfect red lips. Plus she pulls off the headwrap look like no other!

I am definitely going to be plugging up my curling iron after I get over these migraines and take a plunge to make these gorgeous retro waves!

And of course, the ultimate Advertising Exec Don Drapper (played by Jon Hamm). I don't think I have to say anything else. You get the picture. (literally)

Oh yeah and you gotta love a man who wears a fedora!

Do you watch Mad Men?? What do you think about the fashion and who is your favorite character!??

Yesss!!! I love Madman. I think my fav is also Joan. The thing is, we like watching her, but if she were working at one of our offices, she'd prob be hated by a bunch of women simply bc 1. she gorgeous and 2. bc she DOESN'T take any flack...I'd like to think many of us women have risen above the whole office jealousy thing but I see it all the time....

whoa! I got WAY off subject!!! Haha! Anyway, the show is awesome and I love the decor of that era too;)

I haven't gotten a chance to watch Mad Men - I'm going to have to Netflix this up sometime when I have the house to myself (since my parents watch it religiously!). Jon Hamm (and the other main man - the one from Sex & the City who was the politician? I don't know his name, but both of them are hot, hot, hot! The women are so gorgeous, and I love that Christina Hendricks celebrates her curves!
Gorgeous photos :)
I do hope your migraines get better, dear! I had one today, so I totally feel your pain and can't imagine having them day after day like you! Good luck with that!

Oh no, the last thing I need is to get hooked on another show! Gossip Girl is enough drama, haha. I've heard so much about Mad Men, like you, but have never watched. I suppose on a wintery mix day I may have to get the DVD's.. ;)

Migraines are just awful! I used to get them quite frequently, so I know your pain. :( Feel better.

Hope you're feeling better. If there is one advantage of feeling poorly, it's getting the chance to watch Mad Men. I'm on season 2 and it just gets better.

I freak'n love that show. My husband and I dressed up as characters last year for Halloween. My favorite character is Joan. I love her curves. She's beautiful. I wish I could take a trip back in time and visit that decade for a day. ....Just to wear the clothes. ;)

I have never watched a single episode of Mad Men!

I keep thinking I should get the DVDs, even if it's just to look at the frocks!

OK, I am going to be honest and say that I didn't keep up with the season of Mad Med but I was most definitely keeping up with the style. I suppose I need to hop on the Mad Men train? Yes.

I am such a HUGE Christina Hendricks fan. She is hawt.
Love this post :)

I watch the show and love the Fashion on it like everyone else. I too like Betty. She has that innocent AMerican charm about her. Though do not like her moody character sometimes ;) Hehe!

P.S. I have had the nose ring for about 10 years now. And it didn't hurt, in case you were wondering! Hehe

Hi there lovely, How awful to have been stuck with a horrible migraine you poor thing:(. But at least you discovered the wonderful MM:). I love watching the characters develop, they're such complex people and of course Don is ever the mystery man. I love Joan too - I read a Vogue article with the Joan and Betty actresses who said they have to wear the restrictive corsets and longline bras etc which they felt helped them play their roles with such conviction. These women lead controlled lives in so many ways don't they? Thanks so much for visiting me and leaving such a lovely comment - I'm in love with that necklace too:). xo

Thinking I need to have an 'ill' day just to catch up on the whole series. I tried to start watching one mid series and didn't get what was going on. Plus I'm one of those people who have to do things from the beginning.
Love their style and the fact that Hollywood may (we can hope!) be starting to embrace curves.

I used to specialize in selling 40s and 50s dresses. I'm a big fan of that era for every aspect of design. But I still haven't seen this show! It looks fabulous.
