Vibrant Streaks in Gorgeous Locks, What's Your View?

I have always loved a peek of bright pink or hint of subtle blue found within gorgeous blonde locks.  I know to some it may seem too "out there" or "over the top", but I must say I adore it!  I am also a hairstylist, so it would make sense that I love to see these funky hues in people's hair.  I have picked some of our top celebrities who gave this bold trend a whirl.  What's your take on this? Yay or nay?

First up is Katy Perry. She is actually my newest girl crush! I love her funky style and how she carries herself with such pizazz.  I think if anyone can pull this look off, it's her!

Jordan Sparks keeps most of her fiery orange red streaks under wraps.  But after a closer look, you can see a little red streak popping out.

Awww and Rachel McAdams.  I have always and will always adore her! And one of my favorite combinations is pink and blonde.  She looks so dreamy!

The infamous Avril.  Although I don't dig her style much, I do think she is a beautiful girl and this look suits her.

Christina Aguilera. Wow, this bombshell has come such a long way.  I do still love this fuchsia  color amidst her baby blonde locks, but I prefer her full on platinum these days!

Would you ever consider donning a funky hue in your locks?? I did last year for about a month.  I had dark brunette hair with a big hot pink stripe in front.  I don't have any photos of it though! (Probably because I rarely take photos of myself with dark brown hair)

I admire their confidence to pull off such a look I don't think I ever could! Katy Perry always looks fab because she carries herself so well.
Thanks for your sweet comment,

not sure.. did when I was a teenager, and I think everyone should try something like this. But in grown up women not so sure. I mean, not to be a square, but some things you just need to grow out of in time.

Love Rachel McAdams look!! I would do blond & pink in a second but my work is waaaayyyy to converative and it would make life harder. It's already hard cause I'm the youngest person there.

Is there anything that Katy Perry can't do? She looks amazing with those vibrant colors. They really suit her personality.
Avril -- I'm not even going there. I liked her at one time -- when I was, you know, eleven or whatever.
I like my Christina Aguilera how I like my Britney Spears and Lady Gaga -- whorey, slutty, and trashy. Therefore, I LOVE LOVE LOVE this look of slutty Christina with the colored hair. She's so dirrrty.

Angela my dear, your hair color post is inspiring me. Maybe I just need a shot of hot pink to get me out of my January blahs? Just a teeny tiny one?

Do not like, Christina is an iffy one because, that is from the 90s but i don't like it now, I think it's cheesy!

I did this for quite a while, on the underside of my hair. I LOVED IT!! I did the darker fuchsia, hot pink, and purple (at separate times). I guess it's been a couple years ago now, and sometimes I miss it! I loved how it peeked out.

When I decided to go back to all brown, it took a while since so much bleaching had been done, and if you don't do it the right way, that part of your hair becomes like straw. I've always dyed my own hair and thought I could just use a box of permanent color to make it all brown when it was faded enough, but it did not work. Actually, what you need is a demi-permanent color, Colorful Neutral Protein Filler (from Sally Beauty to equalize porosity), and possibly some super-strength conditioning treatments for a couple weeks first. That part of my hair still isn't as dark of a brown as the top, but actually, I like that because it is a subtle thing that makes my coloring more interesting! It's like painting walls...it's just paint! (Or just color.) You can always try it and then go back.

When you first have bold, bright colors in your hair, you feel like you can do ANYthing!! You're bolder and braver and more outgoing. And you'll have to get used to all the compliments you get! Fortunately, my confidence lasted when I went back to brown, but the dye was a catalyst! :)

The two brands I used were L'Oreal Color Rays in Fuchsia Flash and Splat brand.

MY WORK JUST WARNED EVERYONE ABOUT DOING THIS...NO FUNKY HAIR COLOR. OH WELL!! COOL POST!! DAWN SUITCASE VIGNETTES.

About 2 years ago, I had pink, then purple, and then blue highlights. It was fun but my hair is dark so it took a lot to get and keep it that way. In the end, it ended up being too high-maintenance for me. I do miss it sometimes though.

Oh my I did mine blue in 2008...god knows what I was thinking....Angela seriously can you imagine me with blue hair...But for the rest of my life I think I would rather be all natural.

I LOVE Katy Perry, she looks amazing no matter what she does - even though her style is OTT and I'd never wear half the things she does she has fun with fashion and that's what it's about.

I've just nominated you for a Stylish Blogger award! See here -> www.blahblahbecky.co.uk

I admire and wish I had their confidence. Though on some it looks good, but on others it doesn't quite suit them. Though I love Rachel McAdams, hair it's so pretty!

I would never do it. It just wouldn't fit my style. I'd look like I'm trying to be something I'm not. Having said that, I like it on others. I think they are bad ass!

I like this look but prefer it on brunettes rather than blondes.. I had some big chunks of color in my hair a few years ago and it was fun but I tend to like more natural looking colors in my hair since I dress kindof conservatively.

I love black with dark burgandy chunks.. that looks cool... are you going to do some colors in your hair sometime soon? is that why you are thinking about this stuff????

Maybe you could get EMMA to do that when she gets her new haircut!! whatcha think EM???

I would only do it , if you were my hairstylist!

I don't colour my hair so I would be very very very nervous.

I do love Rachel McAdams with the pink and blonde , it looks like a natural fit. And with that pastel pistachio green dress. How pretty!

I have wanted pink streaks since Rachel McAdams sported them years ago. My hair is just too short - and too red! - for such a vibrant color. I'd think you need a ton of confidence and a rather bold personality to pull off a funky-hued hair color. But, I say why not?

Shybiker said...

I like this whimsical touch, too. It adds pizzazz and youthfulness.

I'm impressed you show my two favorite girl-crushes! Katy and Rachel have appealed to me from their earliest appearances. I follow everything they do.

I've done blonde streaks, but nothing very interesting beyond that. I love the funky shades in Katy's dark hair!

P.S. am I crazy or did you change your header recently? I LOVE the photo! You're such a genius, lady! xo

While I love this on other people I wouldn't do it myself. Love Jordan's look in particular. One of my friends who has black hair had the bottom 2 inches dyed red. It look awesome (but it was a pain to keep the colour right).

Ashley said...

I did this not too long ago with a little purple streak in the back. I use temporary dye though, so it washed right out! It's fun but I could never commit to permanent crazy-colored dye.

I think it's fun but definitely not for me.:D

I think from all the examples seen here, Rachel McAdams does it best. It looks simply stunning, makes me want to go blonde!
I've always wanted to try this look, as a brunette, maybe it's time I treated myself to some colourful locks ;)
