How to Decide if a Pixie is Right for You

First, I wanted to say thank you so much for your feedback on my first make-up tutorial video.  I am taking everything you say into consideration and definitely going to cut down my time, figure out why my video is so dang blurry, and talk a little louder!! So, stay tuned for my next tutorial on Monday. Also, if you guys have any requests on a certain make-up look please email me or let me know and I would love to do one for you!
Oh yes, and if you haven't subscribed to my YouTube channel, please do HERE!

Now, on to another important love, HAIR!!

Pixie haircuts seem to be all the new rage if you can actually take the plunge and go for the big chop.  I personally think most of the pixie cuts that I have seen on celebrities and even a few of our fellow fashion bloggers are incredibly adorable and sassy.  Think of how simple life would be if you didn't have to use a whole bottle of shampoo a month and your hair-styling routine was only a mere 5 minutes long! (No ladies, we are not talking ponytails - I have my own opinions about the regular ponytail but I will refrain this time) You cut put a little product in, finger dry, and voila! You have super cute amazing Halle Berry pixie hair!

You have to remember a couple of KEY points before taking this very brave style on.

1. It will be face forward for this style, so be prepared for your face to be your main feature now.
2. You HAVE to be prepared to wear some kind of make-up.  I am a little bit of a make-up queen but I will let those little naturalistas get away with mascara, a little eyeliner, and lipgloss!
3. Go to a professional hairstylist that you REALLY trust! This haircut is not for any ol' hair stylist, it takes a lot of work to get all those short layers to lay just right.
4. Wear jewelry - most likely earrings will do the trick.
5. Be confident! - this is a woman's number one accessory for any hairstyle.

Here are a few of my favorite celebrities that have rocked this pixie cut with no problems!

The always beautiful Carey Mulligan with her light platinum locks. She kills it.  Notice how she enhances her eyes with deep dark smokey hues and flaunts those huge chandelier earrings.

It doesn't matter what color hair or cut Rihanna has. She will always look flawless.  This cut is one of my favorites on her though. Notice her eyes are very played up.

Victoria Beckham is the queen of hairstyles! As soon as she cuts her hair, everyone is running to the salon asking for the new "Victoria." I love how she uses her hand band here to add femininity to her short crop.  She is also the queen of the dark eyes!

The ultimate pixie wearing diva, Halle Berry. Gorgeous! Enough said.

And let's not forget our very own wonderful fashion blogger Karla from Karla's Closet. Not only does she exude chicness and panache, she rocks the hottest pixie cut in the blogosphere!

I also wanted to share with you all a super short, edgy pixie cut I did on one of my clients about a month ago.  Now, she warned me that when we were going to cut her hair that she was going to want it cut VERY short.  She wanted to make sure that I was prepared.   Well, I am not going to lie, when I realized just how short she wanted to go I was a little reluctant, but she was absolutely confident that this is what she wanted and she had thought about it for a very long time.  It took us about three rounds of cutting to finally get it as short as she wanted, but we got there!! She has the most beautiful face and stunning smile and pulls this cut off like no other mother I have ever known.  She is one of my favorite clients and I look forward to every single appointment that we have together!

Here is Becky's before picture.  She pretty much had a bob with short side bangs.

This is Becky after we were done.  (Remember it took me 3 haircuts to get here!!)

So my question to you all is what do you think of the pixie? And would you ever consider doing it yourself or leave it to the others!!??

I love the idea of it (Emma Watson is another celebrity who recently took the plunge), but I'm way too scared! I love my long hair...every time I cut it even the least bit, I regret it. But all these stylin' ladies have got me thinking about it...especially Karla.

I think it's awesome that your client had the guts to do it...and to come in and tell YOU to be warned! Inspiring, really. I'd probably be crying in the chair while you cut it.

O girlfriend, pixie cut...never again
when I was pretty young I had to have some surgery on my ears and they HAD to cut my hair into a pixie (well, not the docs, but you know what I mean.) I was the ONLY girl in my grade with a pixie cut. Never mind that it was all the rage because of Twiggy back in the day.
Anyway, it took forever to grow out and I swore I would never do it again!

I think a pixie cut can be very cute, however I can't see myself ever going for it . I do think you really need to have a certain face shape to pull it off, and I'm pretty sure I don't have it. Your client looks adorable after, and I think the shorter cut makes her look younger as well.

I love Victoria's pixie the most. It looks classy and sophisticated. Great job on Becky's haircut. I think I had a pixie cut when I was in high school and since we were all girls in the school, someone said I looked like a boy and a grade school boy at that. :D

I think Pixies are good for women who have visible cheekbones and a small face. Carey Mulligan, I have to say, donned this hairdo very well.

I love the pixie - but definitely not on me - I think my head is just too large or maybe I am just too much of a wimp? Probably the latter, hehe.

LOVED your tutorial - so fun to see you on camera :)
Andddd like I have already mentioned - I am obsessed with the new header. This is on the top of my list for Things To Improve My Blog!

And you can TOTALLY come with!!!!

The hairstyle Becky has - my mum has worn it for years. Says it's the comfiest style she ever had. I've never been as short (with my thin hair I'd look bald that way) but I also like the shorter end of haircuts. Except in the summer. Then it's better to have something covering the neck (sunburns and mosquitoes). :)

Love the pixie cut! I wish I could do it, but I have a stangely-shaped noggin ;) Great job on the cut!

I've had my hair very short (not good), like Victoria's (which I loved) and now longer (for me). Currently pondering having it cut off again. Not decided as yet.

Oh my gosh. . . for the hair addicted like me (and you!) this post is awesome. I've been wanting to chop it off for a while now and a pixie cut is just so chic :)
Although I'm not sure I could pull it off and I don't have a hair dresser right now so it probably won't happen for a long while, but I'm still obsessed!

I love what you did with your clients hair, it suits her so well and it looks really gorgeous on her!

hearts and hugs,
Nina

I love pixies on many of the ladies you included, but it is definitely NOT for me. I'd have a coronary!

I'm rocking a pixie cut right now, and I can't say it's the first time. I spent much of my life drastically changing my hair every few months, but I seem to always come back to a pixie when my hair is too short to really change in any other way (think: bowl cut to pixie)!

Your key points are dead on although I have to admit that since I'm living in a small beach town at the moment, I am not wearing much makeup. During the day I'm bare faced (Surfing with makeup? No, thanks.), but at night I'll throw on a little eyeliner, mascara and lip gloss.

And I agree: Rihanna always looks flawless!

My face is far too round for a pixie cut! It looks great on Carey Mulligan, I like it on her now that it's growing out too. She always looks flawless.
